Plein-air Study 3

Plein-air Drawing

Plein-air Painting

Plein-air studies of Chimney Beach, north east shore of Lake Tahoe. (Pencil on paper, and oil on canvas panel.  9" x 12".)  The drawing was done first, then transferred onto a canvas panel.  I was just focusing on colors and values at the painting phase.  They were done this past summer.  We had a huge infestation of yellow jackets this year.  It was really hard to focus on my task, working along with them!

Respite 2 Final

Oil on Masonite board, 12" x 16".

The painting is the most recent piece, but the idea has been brewing quite some time, and finally had a chance to execute it. It is a simple idea of capturing a model's unguarded moment between poses. My studio is much more cluttered, but is simplified for the sake of the piece.

The New Work, "Cloudy Days"

2013, oil on linen, 16" x 18".

Here is my latest life painting effort.  I wanted to just use a natural light from the window, but we had a succession of cloudy days, so I devised to hang an artificial light at the window.  It worked pretty well for getting a consistent main light source.

The model was a trooper.  She was always on time, conscientious, and held the pose well.

Plein-air Studies

Westpoint Hill (After the Morning Rain)

Galena Creek Forest

Two quick plein-air studies done in oil on illustration boards, 10" x 8".  Sometimes it is challenging to do an outdoor painting during winter months, especially when you have to fight the bitter cold temperature, but hard to resist the beautiful winter palette.
