A woman emerges from the darkness, hindered by an unwieldy
burden. The silver chain represents an obstacle to her enlightenment. The piece
was inspired by Dr. Michio Kaku, a theoretical physicist who posits that there
are three universal stages in the advancement of a civilization. According
to Dr. Kaku—and to Dr. Carl Sagan—we’re a Type 0.7 civilization. Let’s
hope that we make it to Type 1.
